The cutting list
The cutting list is an integral part of the communication process in making
fitments. In conjunction with the full size set-out rod, it provides each
person involved with the necessary information to manufacture the project
accurately. The set-out and cutting list is a package of information. Each
one supplements the other. This package can be retained and used again
when necessary. It should be kept in a safe place as much time and effort is
spent in its development.

For example in this cutting list of the triangular cabinet shown below:

The cutting list should contain the following data:

1. a part number

2. a description of the part, eg. top

3. the quantity required

4. the length of the part (not stock length, but cut length or finished length)

5. the width of the part (not the nominal size, but the dressed or finished width)
6. the thickness of the part (not the nominal size but the dressed or finished thickness)
7. the material the part is to be made from

8. a remarks column for any special details
9. The name of the unit or item being made.

Watch the power point presentation on cutting lists .

Information from the cutting list can then b used to calcualte material prices and make cutting patterns.
the templet below can be used to build cutting lists nad work as a costing sheet.

Cutting Patterns

Cuting patterns are developed from cutting lists and are a scale representation of the way a sheet or panel product can be cut up to maximise the usage of the sheet and minmise the waste. cutting patterns ca also help you to determine the total quantity of material need to do a particular job.
For example you can calculate how many sheets of Sliced Pacific Maple is required to cut the kitchen cupboard doors below.
Sheet size: 2400mm x 1200mm.
Doors 28/ 585mm x 380mm

“NOTE” first draw a diagram of the sheet to work out how many doors can be cut from one sheet

cutting_pattern.JPG

So we get 12 doors from each sheet
Therefore 28doors ÷ 12 doors / sheet = 2.33 sheets

say 3 sheets
